Catholic Social Services provides a spectrum of services to address the ongoing crisis of poverty in our community.

One attribute of that crisis is hunger. In Ohio, one in every seven people — and one in every five children — struggles with hunger. Our Choice Food Pantry and FoodSource programs are working to meet the emergency food needs of our neighbors.

But our poverty alleviation programs don’t end with food. Hunger is a symptom of underlying issues that imperil family stability. We help our clients set and work toward goals that build on their own strengths and their aspirations for themselves and their families.

Since 1972, CityWide has served as a non-profit organization with a mission to strengthen Dayton through strategic economic and community development. CityWide develops programs and services to address Dayton’s need for economic growth and viable, attractive neighborhoods. For many years our core services have focused on providing gap financing to attract and expand business development in the Region; support development of large-scale neighborhood revitalization efforts; and engage in catalytic real estate development. CityWide achieves its mission through three major program areas: Economic Development, Community Revitalization, and Downtown Housing and Real Estate Development.

FAITH Emergency Services provides emergency relief to individuals and families in Mason, Deerfield Township, South Lebanon, and Shadow Lake in Ohio.     FAITH is funded by several Mason/Deerfield churches, as well as Warren County United Way, Kiwanis, and individuals in the community.

FAITH was established as a Christian ministry working to care for all God’s people without regard to their faith or beliefs. We are responding to the call to “Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day.” (Isaiah 58)

Beginning in 2022 FAITH has begun a relationship with Warren County Community Services (WCCS)  in which WCCS uses FAITH resources to fullfill the needs of clients in the Mason, Deerfield Township, South Lebanon, and Shadow Lake are who as seeking emergency assistance.   For more information about the types of support that FAITH provides through Warren County Community Services click on the Services Offered tab above.

OUR HISTORY

Homefull was founded in 1988 by Sister Dorothy Kammerer and other committed volunteers as The Other Place as the community's response to needing another place for the homeless to go during the day. Since then, and after changing it's name to Homefull in 2010, the organization has grown significantly and takes a comprehensive approach to addressing poverty in general which is the root cause of homelessness. Homefull is still headquartered in Dayton and also operates programs in Columbus and 15 other Ohio counties. It employs nearly 100 passionate professionals and provides services to over 2,000 households on any given day.

The mission of Miami Valley Community Action Partnership is to work in partnership with local communities to eliminate the causes and conditions of poverty and to promote individual independence and self-sufficiency. (Taken from their website).

We’ve been around since 1865, originally called the East London Christian Mission. An itinerate pastor named William Booth started the organization as a grassroots effort with boots on the ground in London. He didn’t have buildings, but he did have a dedicated following who saw desperate need among the poorest of people and took to the streets to offer help. Booth referred to the organization as a volunteer army, because of the way they operated and served. As the organization grew, he used military-style rankings to describe the hierarchy of leadership. Leaders adopted a uniform apparel that mirrored military styles. Their mission was to serve others in Jesus’ name, meeting not only their physical needs, but also their spiritual needs. Booth described their work as providing “soup, soap and salvation,” eventually changing their name to The Salvation Army.

Today, the mission is the same and we’ve kept the Army structure. Our officers, or leaders, are ordained pastors.

St. Vincent de Paul serves our neighbors in need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our help begins with our Conferences and their volunteer members (Vincentians) giving emergency assistance with utilities, food, clothing, furniture and many other services to our neighbors in need. Person-to-person assistance is the trademark of the St. Vincent de Paul Conferences; helping individuals to stay in their homes.
